Position Description-Quality Assurance Manager-Harvest Hill Beverage Co.

The Harvest Hill Beverage Co. Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring quality and food safety programs meet all HHBC and FDA Food Safety regulations for the Juicy Juice® and Nutrament® Brands. The candidate shall have first-hand experience in food/beverage manufacturing, well-versed in food microbiology and processed beverages, specifically juice. The office will be in Stamford CT and will report to the Sr. Director of QA, Food Safety and Regulatory. Up to 35% travel may be required.

Position Summary

Manages food safety programs for the Juicy Juice® and Nutrament® Brands. Supervises plans, coordinates and directs quality programs designed to ensure continuous production/service consistent with established standards. Fashions Technical Change proposals and administers activities through commercialization. Oversees materials quality management issues resolution. Supervises the development and analysis of statistical data associated with QA programs; track success and specifications.  Strong knowledge of GMP’s, labeling laws, HAACP, GFSI Certification Requirements.

Primary Functions

Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities to support sanitation, microbiological monitoring, overall food quality and food safety objectives.

Fashions Technical Change proposals and administers activities through commercialization.

Labor with Product development to create risk assessment for formulation projects, mitigate risks accordingly to ensure full commercialization is realized without delay or quality event.

Updates Product Manuals and ensure recipients are well-versed in all changes.

Creates/preserves a unified relationship with 3rd party co-manufacturer’s QA staff members.

Works closely with Co-Manufacturing plants to track, manage and effectively resolve day to day quality, complaints and commercialization issues.

Interface with major customer Quality personnel and compliance to standards.

Assists in customer/consumer complaints and inquires for HHBC Brands, to include Private Label, and Food Service. Assist with customer letters and responses and product investigations.

Promotes continuous improvement, cost-improvement objectives and tracks success.

SQF Practitioner and responsibilities for Food Safety & Quality include:

Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System including food safety and food quality fundamentals, and updating SQF documents, manuals, procedures, and forms.

Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System.

Maintains and updates share point library of all HHBC Quality and SQF documents and requirements

Responsible for follow-up activities for manufacturing site audits of SQF Policies and Procedures.

Maintains training documentation for DC’s and Co-Manufacturer’s HHBC programs.

Assists in the managing of FSMA, HACCP and HHBC specification system.

Assist with supporting Lean Manufacturing and 6-Sigma, as applicable.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge Requirements

BS/BA degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or related field preferred

Minimum 5-7 years experience in managing a quality control function inside a food /beverage manufacturing environment

Thermal Process School is a plus

Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certified, a plus

Formal 6-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing training a plus

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills with ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines

Ability to use PC and widely used software, spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word), etc.

Ability to work independently as well as maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of the organization (inside and outside the company)
